The Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualification tournament will take place from 18 to 22 September 2019 in Haiyang China
The 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualification Tournament will determine two men's and two women's quota places for their National Olympic Committee/National Federation to the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo providing that the athletes meet the eligibility requirements stipulated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the qualification system.
With host China receiving one berth in both genders, the other 15 spots will be determined by the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings as of July 16, 2019 with one team per gender per National Federation.
The National Federation for each qualified country is responsible to nominate their players for the event.
The seeding of the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualification Tournament is based on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking as of July 16, 2019, with exception of the host country. Host China will receive the No. 1 seed in both genders with seeds No. 2 through No. 16 per the points defined above and teams will be placed following the serpentine system.
Unlike qualifying for the London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, the Olympic Qualification Tournament in September next year is being kept separate from the FIVB Continental Cup which earns one NOC/NF per gender, per continental confederation a place. In the two qualifying cycles in 2012 and 2016, the teams that finished second and third had another chance to qualify at the FIVB Continental World Cup, which will not be the case for Tokyo 2020.
